In this Brainiacs show, Paula Rhoads and her daughter and brother take a FREE TOUR of the Governor's Mansion, and you can too on Tuesdays through the summer from 1 to 3 pm. Paula just wants you to see how the governor's glasses are very similar to hers that she bought at Goodwill or ARC Thrift Stores.
Then Joe Sabel speaking to the 4th Annual Brain Injury Employment Conference last week offers new perspectives on the subject for folks feeling stymied with the current economy. His assistant, Diana Hall, joins him to open new ideas for self employment as an alternative pursuit. Incidentally, Joe is seeking a wife, and also offered his email and phone to advise people who contact him.
Paula also provides the email and phone for a national agency that offers assistance of up to $15,000 in tax credits to businesses wishing to modify their architecture to provide access to meet the requirements of the American with Disabilities Act. There are two other tax incentives that organization can help with, including for hiring disabled people. National Network of Ada Centers: 800-949-4232 or adata.org.
You didn't really expect Paula to miss an opportunity to disagree with the Colorado Public Relations association's naming Ken Ross, CEO of Pinnacol Assurance, as Man of the Year, did you? Paula still thinks she's right about those federal laws in Reynolds v. Sims about political subdivisions of the state not being sovereign or independent. In spite of all the evidence suggesting that Pinnacol is indeed independent, despite the federal laws. While Pinnacol's CEO Ken Ross is unhappy that Channel 7's Tony Kovaleski videotaped him at Pebble Beach, Pinnacol has no obstacles to videotaping anybody else. One must also remember that HB 1012 died in the Legislative session, which would have required employers and insurance companies to put evidence of fraud before a judge to get permission to videotape disabed claimants. Private Investigators doing the videotaping are not licensed in Colorado. Cops have to ask a judge for a search warrant, why not Pinnacol? How about a little EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAWS?
P.S. Paula did not raid Mrs. Ritter's closets -- she got that sequin jacket at Goodwill for $2.50.
The show wraps up with opera singer, Tammy Coil, mezzo, who won fourth place in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild's Spring Competition, the Stasia Davison Award.
