Dr. Shogun
In Project: Brainiacs

Dr. Shogun of Rose Hospital in Denver speaks Jan. 3, 2012 to Hangout, a support group for people with brain injuries, including someone whose life he saved.

Previously at Denver General Hospital and Colorado University, Dr. Shogun shares slides of brainscans with the group while discussing Aftereffects of Brain Injury and goals of neurosurgery.

The question and answer session demonstrates not only the intellectual curiosity of folks living through brain injury and surgery, but also the diplomacy of professionals working with folks who retain personality.

The information defining various levels of severity of brain injury is also useful as a primer for understanding expected outcomes in a field experiencing dynamic advances in medical research and where patients sometimes exceed expectations.

PREVENTION! is the best idea, Dr. Shogun said.

Also, Paula Rhoads agrees (?) with Denver Post columnist Vincent Carroll about the importance of the police monitor position and departure of Richard Rosenthal after more than six years investigating Denver police brutality issues, including those who fail to tell the truth and those dragging their feet when investigating other police.

Also, the report on solitary confinement and mentally ill inmates in Colorado's Department of Corrections is now available in full at the website of Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition's website at ccjrc.org.
