Pueblo's upcoming regional BIAC Conference April 25 is next week at the Pueblo Community College, so heads up down there! Kent Fonda of the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado was prepping us for several upcoming conferences as other BIAC staffers were finishing the move to 1385 S. Colorado Boulevard, Suite 606 which is just down the hall from Mental Health America of Colorado and MOE KELLER's office. Imagine that.
Also, Paula reviews where Fort Lyons is, and expresses some disbelief for detractors from plans to use the closed prison for housing for about 500 homeless people, who might then take advantage of opportunities in the area in agriculture also.
Paula mentions several recently introduced Legislative bills regarding mental health issues, while our session has about 2 weeks left.
Paula gets two points in the "I told you so" category on the gun control debate fizzling out after much gathering of funds to lobby and shout.
That money could have been spent to establish permanent housing for mentally disabled survivors of TBI, at a cost far below prison, but that would require knowledge and logic. Instead, our hospital folks are sending the mentally disabled to prison. Is it any wonder the CU Medical Center has been sold to King Soopers to bulldoze instead of planning for future years of the Baby Boom generation numbers maxing out all resources in nursing homes?
In five years we will look back and wish we had thought harder about that one. Paula will get two more "I TOLD YOU SO" points then.
Meanwhile, Stan Garnett of Boulder, has stated on Facebook he will not be aligned with anyone if he is elected attorney general. Paula thinks that means he should cut up that annual contract with Pinnacol Assurance, and she will vote for him.
