During a visit to Memorial Park in Colorado Springs I came across the Buffalo Soldiers Community Memorial. The memorial is located, near Prospect Lake, in what is referred to as the circle of honor. I’d been hearing dribs and drabs about Buffalo Soldiers over the years and wondered why a memorial in Colorado Springs. So with a few well-placed computer keystrokes I came across Colorado Springs residents; Dennis R. Moore and Wille H. Breazell that I easily can say are the “brain trust” on this subject. As the interview went on I learned that Colorado’s restored Fort Garland was one of the postings for Buffalo Soldiers in this part of the west. The Fort is in the small town of Fort Garland, about 50 miles west of Walsenburg and on the route to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Now lets go to the interview.
