Recently I attended a presentation on “talking points why Wolves could/should be reintroduced to Colorado” (my title) given in Colorado Springs by Mike Phillips who is the Executive Director of the Turner Endangered Species Fund, a current Montana State Senator, and is also an advisor to Turner Biodiversity Divisions. From 1986–1994, Mike was the Field Coordinator for the Red Wolf (North Carolina) Recovery Program. He was also involved in the return of gray wolves to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, serving as Project Leader for the wolf restoration effort from its inception in 1994 until 1997. Mike received his B.Sc. from the University of Illinois in 1980, and his M.Sc. from the University of Alaska in 1986. This show presents one side of the debate, pro wolf. I have found it written that there is a contingent of opponents to wolf reintroduction headed by the Utah-based lobbying group Big Game Forever (BGF) and also seen written that BGF believes wolves deserve no federal protection under the Endangered Species Act and opposes reintroduction, so I have reached out to BGF for comment and an interview. As of the airing of this show I haven’t heard back.
