Hi this is your host Bernie J of Bernie’s Colorado Journeys (BCJ) “Your Bridge to Adventure”. In August I was able to visit and poke around the 37th Annual Narrow Gauge Railroad convention held in Denver and after seeing more than 2,000 people in attendance this is a hobby that appears to be well embraced in America. One of the seminars that caught my attention was titled “Up, Up and Away; Cog Railroads in the USA”. The talk I listened to was about the Mount Washington (6,289-ft) cog Railway in New Hampshire, the Green Mountain (1,529-ft) cog that ran in Maine up to the top of Cadillac Mountain (stopped in 1890), and then Tom H. finished up with stories of Colorado's own Pikes Peak (14,115-ft) that departs from Manitou Springs (elevation 6,570-ft). Since I have done a BCJ on the Pikes Peak cog railway I thought I'd spend this show sharing info about the Mount Washington cog railway. So for those train buffs wishing to experience a steam powered train up a mountain the current offering can be found at the New Hampshire White Mountain cog railway.
So what I have done for this show is that I have edited the seminar given at the Convention that talked about the Mount Washington cog and then I made a phone call to New Hampshire to learn about the availability of a steam engine ride at their location.
