August 2014 was the very first Open Music Sessions at Denver Open Media, an event previously referred to as First Friday. On the first Friday of every month, Open Media Foundation holds this free community event at the DOM studios (near the Sante Fe Art Walk) that spotlights local performance groups, comedians, musical acts, and nonprofit organizations.

For this first ever OMS, Kitty Crimes was the featured musical act; Kristin Rand was the comedian; and the Nonprofit Spotlight highlighted The Colorado Independent- small media, big news.
