Sheryle Hutter, unpaid volunteer citizen lobbyist for the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition, discusses the House Bill 1105, which Governor Hickenlooper signed recently, which has adverse impacts for disabled people who cannot swallow vomit in a hospital corridor, particularly if it accidentally hits a hospital employee.
Perhaps these consequences are "unintended," but Host Paula Rhoads remarks about the doubling of the Colorado prison population who are developmentally disabled or mentally ill. Actually, 2.5 times as much.
Is Colorado purposely intending to incarcerate people because they had an accident? Well ....
Sheryle, who is the mother of a Special Olympian Ron Hutter, as well as Don, whose disability comes from a violent crime, has a review of a few legislative bills this past session, and promises a few more in late July.
Also, Paula shares video from Aurora Reservoir to remind you it is $10 a CARLOAD, and certainly a great place to spend time instead of the dangerously swollen Boulder Creek, which we love during safer times.
