Commentary re: Domination of state and local governments by moneyed elites, ie, the oil and gas industry 

The oil & gas industry overstates benefits of drilling and understates the health and safety dangers of drilling too close to schools, homes, hospitals, etc. Subsidized globally by $5 trillion annually, the industry uses its vast fortunes to dominate governments and works with groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council to subvert democracy.  Due to state preemption laws drafted by ALEC, local governments have lost the ability to protect the health and safety of their residents. The people's sole recourse has been to petition to place a statutory proposition on the ballot in 2018 - Proposition 112 will provide safer setbacks for homes, schools, hospitals, etc., from drilling sites - 2,500 feet.
