There are a lot of great organizations in Colorado that help spread the word on great sights and stories of The Centennial State. One of them is the Highlands Ranch Historical Society. I sat in on a presentation hosted by the Society and given by W. Bart Berger, the Founder & Chairman of the Denver Mountain Parks Foundation (DMPF). The Denver Mountain Park system consists of forty-six public parks (22 accessible parks and 24 are conservation areas) that are home to some of the most popular mountain destinations near Denver, including Red Rocks, the William “Buffalo Bill” Cody’s Grave, Evergreen Lake, Lookout Mountain, and Echo Lake. This system of parks, outside the Denver city limits, was established more than a century ago and was designed to capture the essence of the Rockies for tourists and locals alike. It remains an important recreational and natural asset today. During the presentation W. Bart Berger offered for sale the book Denver Mountain Parks: 100 Years of the Magnificent Dream; presenting for the first time in a single volume an authoritative history of the mountain parks from their beginnings to the present day, plus a guide to visiting the parks.
