10-Step User-Automation Broadcast Workflow10-Step User-Automation Broadcast Workflow

The lifespan of media getting on the DOM broadcast system is unlike any other TV station in the world. DOM staff is never involved in ANY of these steps unless a problem arises, enabling us to focus on teaching, fundraising, production, building better systems for individuals with disabilities, etc.

  1. From home, registered members reserve an ingest kiosk/editing station.
  2. Members show up with their show in an acceptable format (mpeg2, DVD, etc).
  3. Members ingest it to the server without staff help (ingest module).
  4. Members provide the metadata, including the theme-block information that determines the broadcast slot (DOMinizer Module).
  5. Once the show is “DOMinized”, ffmpeg encodes it for web (320X240 Flash) and for broadcast (720X480 Mpeg2).
  6. DOM scripts move the broadcast version to the broadcast server archive for storage.
  7. Drupal creates the webpage where viewers watch, rate, and give feedback on the video.
  8. DOM's Scheduling Algorithm programs the show based on its theme, freshness, and vote history, with repeat airings determined by viewer votes. New shows are scheduled for Channel 56 first, based on the chosen theme block. Then, depending on the number of votes received, competition within theme block, and freshness it will be scheduled on Channel 57.
  9. Automated scripts move the show to the Princeton Broadcast server in time for broadcast (and clear it when done).
  10. Viewers at home and on the web let us know if there’s a problem (and DOM staff step in, if needed).

Hello Beloved Stan Lee (if you are indeed still here) & all the rest my Open Media Revolutionary brothers & sisters. Nice to see the battle rages on. Lee & I are DCTV veterans that would like to return. Actually, from our "Perspective"... we never left. Just took a long much needed sabbatical. (smile) We were suffering from DCTV Political Blues & Burnout. But I did send in our donations to ensure at least some sort of presence after six years & 600+ hours of programming. I've heard from fans that our programs were being rerun at midnight but have been unable to verify that on this website via the schedule (of which I find difficult to make heads or tails). LOL I'm just so happy to see you wonderfully gifted young people still carrying on the fight. Loved the intro video. Since we are now doing everything on DVD I love the idea of simply uploading new programming. But first we need to do some catching up & learn the lay of the new land... so we hope to see you all one day soon. I am a bit crippled now. So I need to know if the new studio is handicap/wheelchair accessible? affectionately Lee & Crystal

The organization you gave $100 and 600 hours of programming to has nothing to do with DOM. DCTV shut down in 2005, and their entire staff and board (including Stan Lee) went their separate ways. Over a year later, Denver Open Media launched with an entirely different staff, board, and contract with the City and Comcast. We'd love to have you involved, but its important to know that this is a different organization with different policies and procedures. Our facilities are wheelchair accessible, and sometime this year, you'll even be able to submit content without coming in.

At DCTV I produced the "Words of Peace" segments, most are still available in miniDV format. I take it that tone & colorbars are no longer needed. My problem is that previously this program was lumped with the "Faith-based" programming. It is not faith-based - the closest group you have is in the Health & well-being catagory. I would like to continue airing Words of Peace with addition new segments as soon as possible and the new format choices will make this much easier. I didn't see office hours so I'll call on Monday. My name is Estela Yanez and I have Knowledge since 1983 when I was in my country of origin, Chile. I live in Westminster, Colorado. I search in RockyMountainInfo.net, and I found that the program "Words of Peace" was broadcasted in Channel 57, Comcast. I called Comcast, and they told me they did not have Channel 57. Then, I searched in Google, and I finally got Denver Open Media website. Unfortunately, I do not understand how I can watch "Words of Peace" on my TV from Denver Open Media systems. I have registered all my information but I do not know how to watch the program on my TV. I would really appreciate if you can help me. Happy Holidays! Sincerely, Estela Yanez
